Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A very rare and highly desirable Roman terracotta oil lamp with a single loop handle, mold made depicting a meticulously detailed crocodile and a lion on the central medallion surrounding the wick hole, with a rare workshop signature COPPI-RES on the base. Rare to find this iconography with a maker's mark to boot! Size: 3.375" L x 1.75" H (8.6 cm x 4.4 cm)
Provenance: Ex-private New Jersey collection acquired in 1980's.
