Description
CHINESE PORCELAIN JAR - Large Qing Ovoid Sang de Boeuf Jar, in high shouldered ovoid form with original friction fit pewter lid having tapered finial, on a fine rosewood openwork carved five-leg stand. Stamped 'China' for export purposes. Late 19th to early 20th c. Roughly 7 1/2" x 8 1/2" pottery, 13" tall overall. Chips to foot (concealed by stand), small chips to inside of rim (hidden by pewter lid). By the late Qing 19th century, potters retained less control over the flow of glazes during firing, and often had to chip away excess pooled glazes from the edge of the foot.
