Description

This cane or walking stick is topped by a bronze cast figure of a popular puppet show figure known as Mr. Pulcinella, or Mr. Punch, from the Punch and Judy puppet show made popular in the 1600s. He has his trademark jester-cap, pointed chin, and massive nose. The bottom of the cane has a horn ferrule.

History: Mr. Punch has been a staple character in puppet shows for hundreds of years, his unapologetic violence serving as a source of humor in all of his shows. The audience intended for the show had been adults up until the Victorian Era, when the shift occurred that such shows were for children rather than the average adult.
