Condition: Under UV inspection, noted one tiny area of inpaint less than one square inch.
History: Luis Lopez Loza was born in 1939. He is a Mexican painter, printmaker and sculptor. Loza studied in Mexico City at the Escuela De Pintura y Escultura ‘la Esmeralda’ and the Centro Superior de Artes Aplicadas before moving for several years to New York, where he studied at the Pratt Graphic Center. In the end of the 1950s, he exhibited in Mexico alongside other young artists whose rebellious stance led them to be referred to as the ‘generación de ruptura’. López Loza developed his personal abstract style from the mid-1960s, after his return to Mexico, using decorative devices based on sharply defined formal structures, either in serial form within an enclosed space, or distributed in syncopated rhythms. In the 1980s he began also to produce sculptures carved in wood or stone. His works are temporarily and permanently at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, J. Paul Getty Museum and, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
