Mexico, 20th century CE. This is a folk art cross made of wood and painted black with small designs: Christ on the cross, sun and moon, tools, and above, a God- or saint-like figure, while below, a ladder, a cock, a skull and crossbones, a smaller cross, and, on the base, a skeleton tormenting three figures in a fiery hell. Size: 7.3" W x 12" H (18.5 cm x 30.5 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Morgan Collection, Santa Monica, CA
