Rome, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A breathtaking transparent pale green glass plate, free-blown and of a broad, shallow form on an applied ring foot with two thin grooves on the exterior of the rim. A quintessential example with extensive rainbow iridescence throughout. A prime example of free-blown ancient Roman glass - of the quality curated by the finest art museums and handled by the likes of Christies and Sothebys. A very similar example sold at Christies, 10 June 2010, Sale 2323, Lot 63 for $3750, and that was six years ago!
