Excellent terra cotta dating to the 3rd-1st century BC with residual paint on the hair, face and eyes. Headdress/crown as well. Mounted on lucite rod for insertion in a base. From a private Los Angeles estate collection. The cult of Serapis was introduced during the 3rd century BC on the orders of Ptolemy I of Egypt as a means to unify the Greeks and Egyptians in his realm.
