Description
Finely executed pen and brown ink drawing on laid drawing paper, untitled (hillside landscape with trees and birds), attributed to/in the manner of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). Signed. 14 1/2 x 18 inches. Very good condition overall. Removed from frame for auction inspection and shipping.
Provenance: Ex-collection Madame Renee de Houx, Paris, who presumably acquired the drawing from Lucien Daudet. Lucien Daudet, an artist and friend of Pierre Renoir, was the son of Alphonse and Julia Daudet, who were friendly with van Gogh's brother, Theo. The former owner, now deceased, apparently acquired the drawing from Madame de Houx sometime prior to 1980.
This drawing is one of the largest we have ever offered that is ascribed to or in the manner of this artist. It is in excellent condition.
