The present lot was acquired by the former owner, a prominent Dallas businessman and art collector, from a New York collector who was associated with the artist. Note the shoe prints on the reverse of the work; Basquiat was known to frequently scatter drawings on his apartment floor and walk on them (typically wearing tennis shoes) while he worked.
