Description
Chinese Embroidered Silk Robe, early 20th c., with bird, butterfly, and floral decoration, H.- 49 1/2 in., W.- 62 in., Shoulders- 24 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. An 8 inch tear is noted in the edge of the left sleeve. A section of silk, measuring 4 by 1 ½ inches, is lacking from the top of the left shoulder, with fraying to the surrounding areas. A 1 ½ inch tear is noted lower on the shoulder. Two other tears, measuring 4 ½ and 2 inches, are seen in the middle of the sleeve. Threads on the button loops are loose. The topmost loop is detached but present. The second loop is lacking. A 3 ½ inch tear is noted in the edge of the right sleeve. Scattered 1 inch tears are observed in the top of the right shoulder. Fraying is noted to the back of the collar. A 1 inch stain is observed on the front between the 1st and 2nd buttons. Another pea-size stain is seen near the bottom button. An elegant example with excellent detail.
