Description
Large cast and fabricated architectural bronze statue of an Egyptian Sphinx holding offering jars. Circa 1930’s. Unsigned. Very close in form to the Egyptian faience model, known as the ’Sphinx of Amenhotep III’, discovered by Howard Carter in Egypt and acquired by he Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in 1936. This sculpture is large and fabricated from a number of cast sections. Original applied green patina. Possibly for use as an exterior architectural or garden ornament made during the Egyptian Revival - Art Deco period of the 1930’s.
SIZE: Length - 25” (63 cm) / Height - 13.5” (34 cm) / Width - 11.5” (29 cm)
Weight - 27.5 lbs.
PROVENANCE: Discovered in the New York Metropolitan area.

Condition
Excellent condition. No damage or restorations. Wear and darkening to the patina in places from handling. Wear to the bottom of the base - foot allowing the bronze to show.
