Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. This is a finely carved black ware strap handled jar in the shape of a monkey's head. Fine lines around the face give the impression of a wizened old animal, imbued with wisdom. His lips are pursed and eyes and nose small; two small, round ears sit far back on his head. The spout is a cylinder, with a fine strap handle coming from the shoulder. Size: 5.5" L x 4.3" W x 5.75" H (14 cm x 10.9 cm x 14.6 cm)
