Description
Ancient Rome, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A cast bronze lion head applique, circular in form with a protruding expressive visage, the details in raised relief with a deeply incised flowing mane, fine facial features, and open mouth. Nearly identical examples may be found in "Greek, Etruscan, & Roman Bronzes in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston" by Mary Comstock & Cornelius Vermeule, MFA, Boston (1971). Size: 1.5" in diameter x 1" H (3.8 cm x 2.5 cm)
