Description
Fine Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Impressed "II" at Base, attributed to the Reverend John Landrum Pottery, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1820, finely-potted ovoid jar with thin, semi-rounded rim and arching tab handles, the entire surface covered in a brownish alkaline glaze, the shoulder with heavier olive-colored glaze runs. Base impressed with two vertical slash marks. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor approximately thirty years ago. A restored 1 3/8" rim chip and some minor chipping to base. Some in-the-firing residue to surface below one handle near base. H 14".
