Modernist painting by listed Belgian artist, Rene Marie Dujardin (1913 - 2002). Oil on stretched canvas. Signed, lower right “R M Dujardin”. Undated - circa 1960. This painting depicts a view of the industrial port of Antwerp, Belgium. Painted in an abstracted impressionist manner. Although creating an overall monochromatic impression, Dujardin has actually used many subtle colors throughout. This painting is nicely framed in a Danish Modern style wood frame.

NOTES / REFERENCES: Born in Antwerp in 1913, René-Marie Dujardin was attracted at an early age to the world of boats and sailing, and became a sailor at the age of 16, traveling the world. He studied painting with Albert Saverjis and Isidore Opsomer at the Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Dujardin had a long and distinguished career as an artist, became internationally renowned, and has works in many collections both in Belgium and abroad.

Member of the Belgian Society of Painters of the Sea and co-founder of the "Vereniging der Schelde Antwerpse Schilders Haven-in”.
