Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a cute pottery dog with slipped cream and red decoration. Most of the body is cream, but his lower body and back legs are red, almost as if he is wearing a small pair of trousers. The dog's face is charming, with coffee-bean style eyes, a sleepy, drooped body posture, and a lolling tongue. This was made to be a grave figure, possibly for a person who had a strong love for dogs, or because dogs were believed to lead a human into the afterlife. Size: 5.25" L x 3.75" W x 7.7" H (13.3 cm x 9.5 cm x 19.6 cm)
