Barbara Hepworth (1903-1975)

The sculptor Barbara Hepworth was born in the English Town of Wakefield. She studied at the Leeds School of Arts and at the Royal College of Art in London. With a scholarship, she spent 1924 in Florence and Rome. Hepworth highly abstracted sculptural works show the influence of Hans Arp, Constantin Brancusi and Henry Moore, with which the artist had been friends since her studies. Barbara Hepworth took part in the 1950 Venice Biennale and the documenta exhibitions in 1955 and 1959 in Kassel. In her studio in St. Yves in Cornwall is now the Barbara Hepworth Museum with a sculpture garden led by the Tate St. Yves. (fea)
