Description
Chinese, late 18th/early 19th century. Export porcelain table vase in Mandarin palette with shaped flared mouth with lappet and floral border above body with blue and white floral, scrolled and geometric patterned borders surrounding courtly figures in detailed celebratory scenes including one with foo dog or guardian lion, another with white horse presented to an Empress, iron red rims at top and bottom, blue glazed rounded handles on sides, diaper patterned fields and parcel gilt ornamentation. Unmarked. Overall approximate height 14.125", width (opening at top) 11.5", depth (opening at top) 10.7".
Condition
Overall with scattered pitting to surface and areas of paint loss commensurate with age and handling. Foot with staple repair, likely a marriage of separate elements. Staple repair with minor, scattered areas of abrasion and loss to paint surface. Upper and lower rims with more pronounced paint and gilt loss, commensurate with more frequent contact. Interior with scattered discolored pitting and composite to bottom rim corresponding with staple repair to exterior. Underside of base with wear commensurate with use.
