Chinese, 19th century Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). A highly carved and lacquered wood censer box on stand comprising a square plinth base surmounted by kang table form with scrolling feet and openwork scroll aprons, with a frieze of gilt florals under an everted black lacquered platform bearing gilded peony blossom gallery with four corner posts bearing floral finials and surrounding a red lacquer painted platform, the lift off cube cover with four sides each bearing a tondo with dragon and cloud scroll or coi fish and seaweed motif reserved to a ground of openwork scrolling vines with chrysanthemum blossoms, the top plane in red lacquer with central coy fish tondo bordered by radiating flower petals. Unmarked. Approximate height 12.5", 14.5" square.

Some losses to lacquer and red paint overall, with some soiling. Some shrinkage to wood, resulting in some minor seam separation and cracking to the carved panels, and separations at the top and bottom panels. Some chipping to wood. Not level. No visible signs of repair.
