Description
After Lam Qua (Chinese, 1801-1860?), "Seated Girl", oil on canvas, inscribed at upper right. A late 19th / early 20th century figural genre painting after the original by noted Chinese painter Lam Qua (Chinese, 1801-1860?) depicting an interior scene with a melancholic woman in finely rendered robes or kimono, with miniscule bound feet, with feather plumage fan in hand, the woman seated near an open window draped in lush red fabric curtains, the window flanked by potted plants on elaborate carved stands, the room with a tall cabinet topped with celadon vase with spring flowers and a porcelain lidded urn, with Chinese inscription to upper right quadrant. Framed approximately 22.75" x 20". Unframed approximately 17.75" x 14.425".
Condition
Splattered accretions to surface and craquelure overall. Frame rubbing to surface. Repaired scratches to upper left, one approximately 4" and other 2", with inpainting. Areas of inpainting in lower left quadrant and upper right quadrant. Could benefit from professional cleaning. Unlined.
