Johann Hauser was an Austrian artist associated with the "Gugging" group, established at the Haus der Kunstler in 1981 by the psychiatrist Leo Navratil at the Lower Austrian Psychiatric Hospital in Gugging, near Vienna. Hauser and other artists who formed the group, began exhibiting their works in the 1970s, long before the popularity of "outsider" art had caught on with serious collectors. Hauser's works have sold internationally.
