The Osage Nation is a Native American Siouan-speaking people in the United States that originated in the Ohio River valley in present-day Kentucky. Historically, the Osage were known as Ni-u-kon-ska, considered an ancient name which roughly translates into "mid-waters." They are a federally recognized tribe that since the 19th century has been based in Osage County, Oklahoma, coterminous with their reservation. Tribal members live throughout the country.
