Ivan Avgustovich Veltz (1866-1926)
Ivan Avgustovich Veltz was born in Saratov, Russia, and was the son of an Austrian merchant. In 1889 he received the Russian citizenship. From 1885, he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, where he attended the class of the landscape painter Mikshail Clodt (1832-1902). After graduating in 1892, Veltz travelled to Italy and Germany, which was followed by a longer stay in Switzerland (1892-1894). Veltz dedicated his oeuvre to the magnificent Russian landscapes.
