The work is in good condition, consistent with age and wear. The sheet is laid down on cardboard and shows needle holes in the corners. The sheet dimensions are 29 x 60.5 cm. The gilt frame has light traces of age and use and bears a glass plate. The frame overall dimensions are 46.5 x 78.5 cm.
Giulio Aristide Sartorio (1860-1932)
Giulio Aristide Sartorio is well-known as one of the most famous Italian Symbolists, alongside with artists such as Giovanni Segantini. He was also active as a film director. In 1889 he won a gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris and met the Pre-Raphaelites in England in1893. In 1895 he was represented at the Venice Biennale. In the following year he accepted a teaching position at the Academy of Arts in Weimar for two years. In the 1920s, Sartorio travelled through the Middle East, Japan and Latin America. (cbo)
