Antique 1890 Decorated Binding Biography of Charles Lamb. "In the Footprints of Charles Lamb" by Benjamin Ellis Martin. HARDCOVER 1890 Charles Scribner's Sons 1st American edition, 1st printing; w/ Date: "1890 on Title Page, "Copyright 1890" & no additional printings on copyright page. Exactly as shown in the listing scan(s). Nice Collectible 1st American edition 1st printing hardcover copy. "Biography of Charles Lamb (1775-1834), English writer and essayist, best known for his "Essays of Elia" and for the children's book "Tales from Shakespeare," which he produced with his sister, Mary Lamb (1764–1847). Lamb also wrote a number of poems, and was part of a literary circle in England, along with Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth, both of whom he befriended. He has been referred to by E. V. Lucas, his principal biographer, as "the most lovable figure in English literature." Illustrations by Herbert Railton & John Fulleylove. Trinity Church Prize inscription, Christmas, 1890 to Isabel Hawkins from Minister T. Dickinson on 2nd blanl end paper, o/w internally tight & unmarked.
