Description
Pre-Columbian, Guerrero Region, Mexico, ca. 300-100 BCE. A stone pendant in the form of a skin bag, carved from variegated green and tan serpentine cobble. These household items were used as receptacles for liquids with rectangular handles and a protrusion at the bottom. While actual skin bags and gourds have not survived the test of time, this amulet is an outstanding example of sculpture that sheds light on the everyday domestic life of the Mezcala. Size: 4" L (10.2 cm)
