Description
Asante or Ashanti people, African (Ghana), 20th century. Two cast gilt copper alloy metal Kuduo figural vessels each with flat lid topped with figures, one with seated figure under domed and tasseled umbrella cover smoking from a long serpentine pipe supported by some of the smaller figures in loincloths on edge, others playing music, holding objects or fanning central figure; the other with a spotted wild cat with stylized mask face with front paws on bovid or antelope, man standing in loincloth on side spearing side of wild cat; fitted figural covers above pot form vessel with incised geometric, stippled and leaf tip ornamentation surmounting a bowed basket form base. Each unmarked. Hunt scene vessel approximate height 9.7". Figure on throne vessel approximate height 11.4". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia.
