Baga people, African (Republic of Guinea), 20th century. Large hand carved wood nimba figural headdress in the form of a woman with prominent nose, jutting chin, geometric patterned hair, rounded ears, thick neck above rounded domed body with stylized flattened breasts, scarification throughout face, neck and bodice, grass surround at bottom covering four rounded legs. Unmarked. Overall approximate height 40.3", width 21.3", depth 23.7". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: Nimba are also called d'mba and yamban.
