Bamana tribe, African (Mali), likely early 20th century. Hand carved wood Chiwara dance crest of traditional form with male antelope motif headdress with pointed incised horns above sloping face incised with repeating geometric patterning and accented with repousse metal bands, elongated alert ears, mane pierced and in four curved bands above simplified body with upturned tail, and four legs surmounting a wood block pierced with four holes placing above head on woven cap (missing). Unmarked. Overall approximate height 44.3". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia.
