A highly stylized carved wooden dance crest that at one time was mounted to a basketry cap and worn during agricultural festivals and ceremonies related to the mythical antelope Chiwara. Bamana peoples, Mali, West Africa. The sculpture measures 22.5 x 8 x 5 inches on custom wooden base. Provenance: Ex Edward Robinson collection, Washington DC.

Good/fair, 1 inch restoration to base attachment hole.
