Description
Japanese School, likely Meiji Period (1868-1912). A finely modeled bronze figure of an adult male lion depicted with muscular body at mid-stride with full mane surrounding face with gilt accented eyes and open mouth, his tail curling downward back toward body, the figure to an integral bronze plinth base. Impressed signature to top of base. Approximate height 9.125", width 16", depth 4".
Condition
Overall with dirt and grim throughout, may benefit from light cleaning. Scattered pitting detected throughout. Areas of verdigris oxidation and wear to surface, most predominantly to base, back and rump of lion. Scattered minor surface scratches and abrasions, not distracting. More noticeable vertical surface scratch to back of lion's right, front leg spanning one inch. Under black light examination no apparent losses or repairs detected.
