This thick celadon glazed Famille Verte polygonal bowl is of superior craftsmanship. The main scene of the bowl depicts in detail in a fenced courtyard with an exquisitely painted pine tree behind a screen next to a crackled vase with blossoming peonies.
Figurative landscapes are common in Famille Verte works of art, here the genre is masterfully depicted with an appealing yellow, green, and aubergine color palette. The cavette of the bowl is decorated with an eye-catching black-lined lambrequin border of stylized floral scrolls.
The rim is adorned with sprays of blossoming flowers, on the underside a double circle in underglaze blue.
Condition
The bowl is in overall very good condition with only minor traces of wear to the thickly glazed surface and the paintwork. One minor location of abrasion to the overglaze on the cavette, under ¼ in. (0.6mm) in size.
