Description
1) "Let these men take oath of Dec. 8. 1863 and be Discharged / A. Lincoln / Jan. 31. 1865", framed with a colored lithograph of Lincoln, Ex. Charles Hamilton Autographs, (together with) 2) A "Petition to enforce a Mechanics Lien", letter, apparently unsigned, framed with a photo of Lincoln (photo not in period), not examined out of frame. *****Due to multiple requests, here is the text of the "Lincoln Document" (Lot 213), transcribed to the best of our abilities: "Caleb Jackson Vs. Orson Stafford Petition to enforce Merchandise Lien/ This day came the parties, and there/ upon a jury, to wit, Nathaniel Dear (?), Robert D. Cannon/, Rhodes Sloyer, J. W. Sloyer, James McTrippit, , Lewis Tom/ Linson, James Gouley, Joseph W. Bennett, John Stenner, Levi/ C Peel, Edward Crow, & Joseph A Heap, who being elected/ tried and sworn, on their oaths do say "We the / Jury find for the plaintiff, and assess his damage/ at the sum of one hundred and sixty four dollars/ and seventy cents, and that the same is due for the work/ and labor done by the plaintiff done for the defendant/ on the house situated on the lot in Rochester, as/ in the Plaintiffs petitioned mentioned- It is therefore/ Adjudicated (?) by the court that the said plaintiff/ recover of the said defendant the said sum of/ one hundred and sixty four dollars and seventy/ cents, together with his cost in this behalf enpend=/ ed, and that the house and lot in the said/ petition describes, towit, lot number twelve in the/ Town of Rochester, Sangamon (?) county, lying on Main/ street ^ or so much thereof as may be necessary together with the house thereon situated, be sold/ and the proceeds of said sale applied to the/ payment of the Judgement, the overplus (?), if any, to be/ paid to said defendant, and that a special/ execution (?) be issued for that purpose.". Document not examined out of frame, no provenance, from the same collection as the other Lincoln item in this lot. Not being guaranteed as a Lincoln holograph. Rochester is in Sangamon county, in Illinois.
