Description
maine artist, on canvas, image area 20" x 16"....Tom Hinkle has been working as a professional artist since 1990. Prior to that, he was a dealer in fine arts, and an auctioneer and appraiser. He has done set design and decoration for community theatre in New Hampshire. His interest in architecture led to a long career as a restorer of historic buildings, and is evident in many of his paintings. His knowledge of the sea and shore comes from many years spent at the family camp at Small Point on the Coast of Maine. Tom’s paintings convey a sense of weather, and along the coast the weather is always changing. The effect of fog on the rocky shore is a favorite subject. Likewise, the rise and fall of the tides constantly changes the image of the vast sand beach. He may also on occasion do an interior, or a steamship such as Titanic. With family connections on Cape Cod, Tom has done a number of paintings in Provincetown. Here the old village itself is often the subject. His paintings have been exhibited at The Martin House, one of Provincetown’s leading restaurants. Tom’s work has been exhibited on Islesboro where he will be showing once again in 2012. Tom owns a house on the island and has completed many paintings of this inspiring place. Tom’s paintings may now be seen at The Galen Moses House on Washington Street in Bath where a room in this impressive Victorian mansion, now a bed and breakfast inn, has been set aside as a gallery. In January of 2003 Tom’s work was awarded Best of Category and Best of Show at the Seventh Annual Skillin’s Art Show. In 2004 he was awarded Skillin’s Second Prize for Oils and Acrylics. Every spring he holds an Open House at his Portland home and studio, and often has a one-man exhibit in August at The Small Point Club. He is a member of The Farnsworth Art Museum, The Portland Museum of Art, Maine Maritime Museum, and the Titanic Historical Society. Tom’s work hangs in private collections from Berkeley, California to Camden, Maine.
