Description

Description: Old Vintage Circa 1878 U.S. American Flag with 13 star circle in "Betsy Ross" pattern. Printed flag has period ink manuscript hand calligraphy written name "Miss Paul" across the stripes. Flag is mounted to paper along with a "Miss Paul" place card that has a written seating chart on the reverse. Period ink written title on top of the page indicates that these items were from a luncheon at Miss Coleman's in Philadelphia, February 22, 1878. Writing on the reverse of the place-setting card confirms that the luncheon was held at the residence of Mrs. G. Dawson Coleman at 2109 Walnut Street, Philadelphia. The flag and place-setting card obviously are souvenirs that Miss Paul mounted into a page in her now missing memory book.
Dimensions: Approximate flag size is 4-3/8 x 2-1/2 inches. Mounting paper size is about 7 x 8-3/8 inches. (Convenient size for framing and display.)

Condition: Adhesive staining as items are mounted with adhesive to the paper. Overall soiling and staining as seen in scans.
