Description

A fine American Chippendale carved and veneered mahogany slant front desk, Newburyport, Massachusetts, circa 1790, the rectangular dovetailed top with slant front writing surface dropping opens to reveal a fitted desk interior with Four (4) valanced cubbies centered by arched shell carved drawers centering column form secret vertical drawers flanking a star inlaid document compartment, stepped out and fitted with Three (3) (3) longer drawers underneath, the lower part of the case fitted with Three (3) (3) double serpentine form long molded drawers, shell and scroll carved skirt, raised on bracketed heavy claw and flattened ball form feet.

Dimensions: 45"h X 41 3/4"w X 21 1/2"d

Provenance: Farnsworth Family of Boston, Alfred L Loomis, Alfred L Loomis Jr. by descent.

Condition

Bearing original hardwares, with one missing pull, center key plate and brass nub for pull out brackets. Some splitting as seen in photograph preview. First time ever offered for sale.
