This is an unusual and stunning piece of South African history. Made from local wood called "Stinkhout" (Stinkwood), a rare and sought after timber, sourced from the Knysna forests. It has three graduated drawers and has a satin-like texture. It presented to Mrs Cairns, the wife of the provincial roads engineer at the time (1939) in Natal (now Kwa-zulu Natal, South Africa).

Plaque appears to be sterling silver, although it is unmarked. condition is near perfect, except for one or two natural flaws in the wood grain - refer to pictures. Key is original and locks still work.
