Item Details
Description
Near East, First Babylonian Dynasty, ca. 1600 to 1500 BCE. This is a terracotta plaque depicting a human figure crouching as if he is feeling the animals at his feet -- a boar and a dog. The dog is particularly cute, with pointed ears and an up-curled tail. Plaques like these were produced using open molds and are one of the best ways for archaeologists to understand everyday life in ancient Babylon; the universality of feeding animals is a fun example of "people in the past were just like us!". Size: 4.75" W x 3.5" H (12.1 cm x 8.9 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Neil Phillips Coll. NY 1981
