Description
An awesome Zapotec figural vessel from Oaxaca, Mexico, ca. 100 – 500 AD. This superb tripod is 7-3/4” high and depicts the Deity with the Headdress with the Flat Top. He is adorned with heavily ornamented ear ornaments, a large nose ornament and a segmented necklace. His hands project out from the chamber and the feet are executed in the form of serpents. A marvelous example in exceptional condition, with strong mineral encrustation. Cf. Boos “Ceramic Sculptures of Ancient Oaxaca”, page 433.
