19th century underglaze blue and copper red dragon porcelain moon flask, China, the rounded flattened body painted in brilliant underglaze copper red on each side, featuring an Imperial front facing five-claw dragon chasing after flaming pearl, surrounded by scrolling lightning clouds painted in underglaze blue above heaped waves releasing splashes of foam at the foot, the slender cylindrical neck flanked by delicately curved ruyi-head handles painted with band of classical scroll, the base with underglaze blue seal mark, on wood stand, 12" h. Provenance: Acquired in New Haven, Connecticut in 1958, thence by descent within the family.
