Hermès

In 1837, Thierry Hermès opened his first shop in the Grands Boulevards quarter of Paris. Because he trained as a saddle maker, the first Hermès shop exclusively sold saddles and equestrian accessories to European noblemen and royalty. By the 1880s, Thierry’s son and successor Charles-Emile Hermes expanded the company and opened a new location near the Palais de l’Elysee. It was not until 1922 when Hermès introduced their first handbags and, not long after, they had become the pinnacle of luxury.
