American Revolution
Revolutionary War Era Green Dyed Man's Leather Wallet
c. 1760-1780 Revolutionary War Era 18th Century, Green Dyed Leather Wallet with Three large Red Silk Lined Pockets, completely intact and supple, Choice Very Fine or better.
This museum quality leather wallet measures closed 6.5" wide x 5" tall, and about 16.25" tall when fully opened (not including its top outer flap) with only light wear, remaining in outstanding condition. Its size and shape strongly suggests it is dated from 1760 to 1780 as folded or larger size Colonial Currency was prevalent. This wallet is also very rare being completely leather dyed Green, as color suggestive of Butlers Rangers during the Revolutionary war period. Each of the three interior pockets is lined with a fine red silk, suggestive of a fairly wealthy or higher status owner. Similar examples are seen in the Revolutionary War Encyclopedia for the period. Some fine decorative outer tooling provides a subtle elegance. The middle, or second, interior pocket has a secondary protective leather flap. One of the finest examples, and certainly the best most fully green dyed wallets we have offered.
