Item Details
Description
An important Veracruz head from Mexico, ca. 600-900 A.D. This monumental size head would have been part of an incensario figure dedicated to the god Chaac. The realistic expression on the face is striking and most likely depicts and actual individual. He is depicted wearing a large headdress of the god Chaac. Remains of stucco are still present and the eyes are highlighted with black bitumen. See last picture for size comparison next to a 19? figure. The original figure would have been massive and quite an important piece.
18" in height.
Condition
All lots will be sold with a COA guaranteeing the authenticity of the piece for a lifetime. All items will come with full provenance information. Condition report and provenance is available upon request. All items were legally obtained and are legal to buy and sell.
