Description
A VIENNA SECESSIONIST STYLE PATINATED BRONZE AND SLAG GLASS TABLE LAMP, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, after Gustav Gurschner (Austrian 1873-1970), the sinuous bronze sculptural standard in the form of a nude woman clutching a large stylized dolphin with waving fan tail and an open mouth issuing a tripartite foliate shade mount supporting a multicolored leaded slag glass shade by Handel & Co., the whole mounted on a later circular Verde Antico marble base, fitted for electricity. Height: 22 3/4" Depth: ` Diameter: 12 3/4" Provenance: Estate of the Late James K. Schooler, Esq. Purchased from Michael John Decorative Arts Ltd., Westminster, London, 25 September 1984, and accompanied by original sales receipt.
Condition
In overall excellent condition, with general wear such as scuffs and scratches throughout, as is expected and appropriate for the age of the piece. The bronze standard has a good amount of brown patina highlighting the details. The bronze shade supports have a number of minor cracks, but nothing that would compromise the beauty or stability of the lamp. The shade in good condition as well, with no apparent cracks, repairs, or losses. Electrification not tested upon inspection.
