A PAPUA NEW GUINEA CARVED SERPENTINE HARDSTONE AX HEAD ON WOOD HANDLE, DANI TRIBE, POSSIBLY LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, with a tapering circular handle surmounted by a domed cap form top, above a braided twine wrapped recessed band fitted with a twine wrapped conical wood neck ending in a hand carved speckled dark green serpentine hardstone ax head, length: 25 1/2".
Condition
Overall good condition for an item of this age, use and materials, with green stone ax head having a chipped edge with minor small surface scratches and small chip on one side, wooden handle having surface marks, scratches, chips, nicks and buildup, age cracks, twine has buildup in crevices and small losses, nice old hand worn patina from use, Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
