A COLLECTION OF CHINOISERIE VANTINES "THE ORIENTAL STORE" COSMETICS AND INCENSE OIL BOTTLE PRESENTATIONS, CIRCA 1920's, comprising a large clear glass figural bath salts bottle, circa 1920, in the form of a seated stylized Buddha, a muted pale green tasseled rope tied around the neck, topped by a cork lined brown glass crowned stopper, the molded base marked "Vantines," height: 6 1/2"; a traveling cosmetics and perfume case, circa 1925, the gold lacquered hardwood exterior featuring handpainted Japanese red-crowned cranes amidst a sinuous tree branch, the hinged lid reversing to a red velvet lined interior centering a gold embossed "Vantines" label opposite a glass Art Deco scent bottle, the rectangular silvered paper label reading "Sweet Pea / Vantines" under a striated hexagonal frosted glass stopper, over a small drawer with wire bail handle opening to reveal a velvet lined cosmetics tray holding a petite Vantines "M" lipstick, in a gold toned filigreed case, as well as a Bourjois "Evening In Paris" blush and mirrored compact, the whole with "Vantines/Made In Japan" in gilt lettering on the ebonized base, height: 3 1/4"; an incense oil bottles case, circa 1960, the painted and lacquered case featuring gilt flying birds, auspicious foliage, and lotus leaves on a glimmering dark orange ground, a metal bail handle on top opens the hinged lid, reversing to a navy velvet lined interior centered by an embossed gilt "Vantines" paper seal, opposite two clear glass oil bottles, "Wisteria" and illegibly labeled stoppers, height: 2 3/4"; an incense oil bottles case, circa 1960, red lacquered wood case decorated in ebonized and gilt stylized flowers, berries, and humming birds, the hinged lid reversing to a navy velvet lined interior featuring an embossed gilt "Vantines" paper seal opposite three square glass bottles, each molded "Vantines," with frosted stoppers in the form of a pagoda's roof, "Wisteria," "O Lotus Sans," and "Mikado" labels, length: 6"; accompanied by an unmarked incense oil bottles case, circa mid 20th century, the cylindrical box ornamented in a fine woven silk landscape, opening to a tripartite interior housing three simple pie-fraction shaped glass bottles with orb stoppers, height: 3 3/4". The toiletries and presentations in overall good condition, with no apparent major chips, cracks, or repairs. The bath salt's cork lined stopper shows signs of decay and is falling apart. The gold lacquered traveling cosmetics and perfume case with an emptied "Sweet Pea" perfume bottle in excellent condition. The petite lipstick retains original lipstick, though rotten. The Bourjois blush compact is not original to the case, but fits in the drawer without trouble. The small incense oil bottles case without major defects, but one of the two bottles with an illegible partial label, and both bottles have been emptied of original contents. The long rectangular incense oil bottles box has difficulty closing and one of the bottles has a number of hairline fractures, though still able to contain liquids. All three bottles have remnants of liquid. The cylindrical case unmarked and housing unmarked and emptied bottles. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
