Description
MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER ABOUT LOGIC, HANDWRITTEN BY THE PRIEST FRANCESCO ALFONSO [BEVILACQUA] OF ST. ANTHONY OF THE ORDER OF THE DISCALCED CARMELITES IN 1679

Summule, seu elementa logicae recentioris cuiusdam auctoris ductu […] Latine simul, et Italice exhibita A’ Pre. Francisco Alphonsi a’ Sancto Antonio Carmelita Discalceati. Anno ab Orbe condito [sic!], 1679.

A manuscript on paper, 8vo (192x124 mm), contemporary full vellum binding, red and black sprinkled edges; leaves [3], 120, [1 b.]. Some explanatory tables and drawings. Text in Latin, handwritten only at every leaf-verso, leaving blank the leaf-recto, probably for the translation in Italian [never done]. The text is preceded by the index.

The Author should be Francesco Alfonso Bevilacqua, from a noble family of Fermo [Marche], who at first was a Jesuit and then became a Discalced Carmelite, taking the name of Francesco Alfonso di Sant’Antonio [see: “Biblioteca picena o sia notizie istoriche delle opere e degli scrittori piceni. Osimo: presso Quercetti, 1791” – T. 2 – pag. 235, and “Biblioteca volante di Gio. Cinelli Calvoli […]. In Venezia: presso Albrizzi, 1735” - T. 1 - p. 47].

Bevilacqua is a noble family from Verona of the thirteenth century that branched out also in Cremona, Ferrara, Bologna, Modena and Fermo (Marche). The Earl Bevilacqua were also present in Mantua from 1653 to 1777.

Fermo (ancient: Firmum Picenum) is a town and comune of the Marche, Italy.

Provenance: Ownership inscription at second free-leaf recto [ex libris D. Antonij de Bevilaquis (Don Antonio Bevilacqua)].

Condition
Traces of use. Light foxing and soiling at some leaf. Overall, a very good copy.
