CHARLES HASLEWOOD SHANNON (BRITISH, 1863-1937) GENRE PRINT, lithograph on paper, "Biondina", a striking image of a pensive woman wearing large, elaborate dress standing in a parlor with two cats watching nearby perched on the back of a sofa, monogram signature in plate. Matted and housed under glass in a modern frame. Circa 1894. 9 3/4" x 11 1/8"sight, 20" x 21" OA.
Very good visual condition with minor overall toning, small area of foxing/discoloration. Not examined out of frame.
Provenance: Property from the collection of Larry and Elizabeth Goldman, Smithfield and Monterey, VA.
Catalogue Note: Charles Haslewood Shannon (1863-1937) trained in London at the Lambeth School of Art and under the influence of classmate and lifetime partner, Charles Ricketts (1866-1931), an important English illustrator of the Art Nouveau period. Shannon and Ricketts collaborated on a number of projects, including "The Dial" and "The Vale", two influential publications at the turn of the last century. Shannon exhibited widely in his day, receiving much critical recognition. His work is represented today in the British Museum and the National Portrait Gallery in London, among others.
