Description
French, first quarter 19th century. Fine Empire tole peinte, gilt bronze, and etched crystal liqueur cabaret service, the circular scarlet painted tray decorated with stylized gilt meander and foliage and mounted with the gilt metal cabaret sheet in the form of three eagles with wings spread and having twelve U-shaped cordial holders to the outer edge (eleven cordials present). The centralized gilt bronze stylized handle having diaper lattice motif and flanked by circular rests for the three decanters and three lids; the whole resting on six toupie style feet. The decanters and cordials decorated with acid etched foliage, arches and dots. Apparently unmarked aside from indistinctive marks to the decanter stoppers. Overall approximate height 9.5", diameter of stand 11". Decanter approximate height 7.75". Glass approximate height 3".
Condition
Eleven cordials, three decanters and three stoppers present. Cabaret sheet with scattered gilt loss, craquelure to gilt surface and signs of mild oxidation. Tray with scattered paint loss, craquelure throughout and signs of oxidation. All glass elements would benefit from light professional cleaning. All cordials and decanters with scattered surface scratches, particularly to underside of feet, commensurate with use. One cordial with chip to rim. One cordial with large repaired crack. All stoppers with very minor surface scratches commensurate with use.
