Description
American (North Carolina), second half of 19th century, circa 1880. Large Southern stoneware pottery jug with runny dark olive green alkaline glaze on exterior, applied ridged rounded strap form handle joining round opening at top to swelled shoulders. Exterior with "5", likely referring to volume of gallons able to be held within. Otherwise unmarked. Overall approximate height 18.25", diameter of foot 8.25". Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
